Thereare 3 pins and a single jumper near the cmos chip. all you have to do is put the jumper on the centre pin and the outside pin that is not presently covered by the jumper. switch the machine on and go into bios, make your changes, switch off and the put the jumper back to the original pins. Also tried F12, ifyou have windows installed, the external monitor will normally turn on when at desktop or you can try to switch to it pressing Fn+F5 keys. if you don't have windows, a live Ubuntu USB/CD is ok. you can also try to point a flashlight to the LCD and closely check if any image appear. I had to replace the disk drive in a TravelMate 5744; ordered recovery DVD's from Acer and have them; machine won't boot from the DVD drive.
